All About Aging is an Aging Life Care practice (also known as Geriatric Care Management) started in 2006 that serves Polk and Highlands Counties in central Florida. We help families navigate the aging process, particularly regarding dementia. We assess the current state of the client, develop and implement care plans, and provide ongoing support and monitoring. This includes:
- Physician visit management
- Hospitalization/emergency room management
- Navigating care transitions (hospital – rehab – home)
- Facility placement
- Aging in place
- Coordinating other service providers
We are always assessing our clients’ current state and advocating for them so they receive the best care for their situation, often recommending medication changes, orders for home health, or facilitating the acceptance of caregivers in the home. Many families are unsure about where to get answers as their loved ones age; we are here to provide guidance and assistance when you are ready.
Our Care Managers are also available to give presentations in the community for any topics dealing with aging issues, such as Brain Fitness, Alzheimer’s/dementia, driving, fall prevention, healthy aging, and home safety. Let us know what your concerns are and with our expertise we will develop a presentation for your group, large or small. Check the Community Calendars page to view our upcoming schedules.
Barbara Herrington, MA, CMC
Barbara is the owner and lead Aging Life Care™ Manager of All About Aging. She holds a Care Manager Certification (CMC) through the National Association of Certified Care Managers (NACCM) and is a member of the Aging Life Care Association™.
In 1995, Barbara’s mother-in-law, Juanita, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and Barbara became her primary caregiver. As most family caregivers do, Barbara determined what help Juanita needed and coordinated those services for Juanita in the home. As the disease progressed and Juanita needed more care, Barbara evaluated memory care facilities that were better suited to care for Juanita. This process, and the struggle to understand the ever-changing dementia, compelled Barbara to help families through similar situations. Barbara began volunteering for and eventually became a Program Specialist for the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. She opened two new branch offices in Polk County and provided families and the community with education, services, and support regarding dementia. Barbara returned to school and earned a Masters degree in Gerontology from USF. While in school, Barbara worked at Platinum Financial Planning, Inc. to educate clients on Medicaid planning and financial options in Florida for long term care. Barbara officially opened the doors of All About Aging in 2006 and has been helping clients and their families through the aging process ever since.
